Scandinavian style graces the pages of a majority of interior design magazines. The simplistic style originated throughout Nordic countries in the 1950s and is characterized by white walls, wooden detailed furniture and minimalistic designs. Here are some decorating tips on how to bring Scandinavian style to your home.
Don’t forget about the color white
White walls, white furniture, white sheepskin carpet… The white color is the most prominent when it comes to Scandinavian style. It’s quite easy to decorate the rest of the decorations in a room when you don’t have to worry about matching a colorful wall.
Keep decorations to a minimum: less is more
The title speaks for itself!
Put one colorful abstract art print to create a statement in the room
An abstract art print will be all that’s necessary for a minimalistic, clean style. There’s no need for a crazy rainbow of neon colors. A few simple strokes will do. Joan Miró has beautiful artwork influenced by surrealism and the dada movement that are perfect for a visual centre point. Or try to play with geometric shapes for a more modern look.
Add a wood in any forms (image, furniture, decorations)
Any form of wooden decoration will add a harmonic balance to white colors. Soft grey faded wood, dark brown, cherry, oak.. What’s important is to keep it natural (usually the wood is unpainted and “raw”). A wooden wall mural will have the same visual affect.
Add black and white images for a clean, classic look
Black and white images look amazing when going for a Scandinavian style because they add a subtle interesting visual element while blending well with the other decorations. Framing these images with a black frame will also add a nice, clean finishing touch. You can easily frame any of your photos or images with our custom framing for any print you want!
Add some nature inspired art
Don’t know what else to add to your Scandinavian styled room? Why not try adding a forest of trees, or a wild forest animal like a wolf? You can even add geometric styled animal prints.
