The French painter Paul Cézanne from the 19th century was also known as "the father of modern art'' and created many landscape portraits. Since he was 13 years old, he studied at the College Bourbon (now Lycée d'Aix), where he met the well-known writer Emile Zola. Later he studied law at the University of Aix in order to satisfy his father's dream. Paul, however, decided to follow his own dream and traveled to Paris, where he studied painting at the Academie Suisse. In his artworks he used basic colours - soft purple, shades of blue, yellow, green and gray. His portraits of landscapes were full of geometric shapes with unexpected hues with an amazing play of light and shadows.
