Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain, and was one of the most important painters and sculptors of the 20th century. He was a son of a drawing teacher, so he decided to follow his father's career. In Barcelona, Picasso became the leader of the Cabaret in four cats (Els Quatre Gatos), a meeting point for young intellectuals and artists. He later settled in Paris where he created his own studio. Here the new aesthetic doctrine was born - Cubism. Pablo Picasso went through a blue period in which he painted mainly themes of poverty, sickness, sadness and gloom. In his pink period he was interested in subtle acts, harlequins and acrobats. One of his most famous oil paintings include the Guernica and Young Ladies of Avignon.
